Il Segno Del Comando

Biography

...

Il Segno del Comando was founded in Genoa in 1995 as a studio project. The following year, the band released their first omonyous LP for the label Black Widow Records. The band aimed to rediscover sounds and atmospheres from the far past; not coincidentially, the first album relied around italian novelist Giuseppe D'Agata masterpiece, after whose the band was named and which also inspired a popular TV adaptation produced by RAI (Radiotelevisione Italian) in the '70s.

The band's style is a very personal blend of jazz, rock, prog and darkly cinematographic influences. In this regard, Il Segno Del Comando follows in the footprints of all-time renowed bands like Goblin, Jacula, Il Balletto Di Bronzo and many more besides.

Following their debut and a long series of collabs, in 2001 the band released their second full length album, "Der Golem", with Black Widow Records. Unlike its predecessor, the album veers toward the characteristic sounds and styles typical of Central Europe, and reworks them in an new expermental (and almost avant-garde) vein.

The lyrics are inspired from Gustav Meyrink's esoteric novel "Der Golem", after which the album itself is named.

As a studio project involving artists from all kinds of different projects, Il Segno Del Comando developed ideas and background material for new work, but was mostly inactive until 2010, when Black Widow Record and Diego Banchero endeavored to form a new line up. Banchero eventually took over as Il Segno's new bandleader. In the same year, Vicenza-based label MP Records involved the band in a tribute to Pierrot Lunaire. Shotly after, Il Segno Del Comando started working on a new LP.

Much like "Der Golem", the album relies on the esoteric legacy of Gustav Meyrink, and especially his masterpiece "Il Volto Verde" ("Das grüne Gesicht").

The first music video from the new project, titled "Chidher The Green", was released in 2015. Ever since, the band performed in a series of exclusive gig all throughout the same year.

In May 2017, Il Segno Del Comando released an album titled "... AL PASSATO, AL PRESENTE, AL FUTURO..." LIVE IN STUDIO as an exclusive 100-copies self production.

On November 2nd, 2018, the band released their new album "L'Incanto dello Zero".

On 28 June 2020 Il Segno del Comando performs at Boffalora Black Water's Prog Nignts Fest with artist such as Jumbo, Aldo Tagliapietra (Le Orme) and Jetro Tull's Martin Barre.

On February 5th, 2020 the band opened the Genoa concert of the Bando Del Mutuo Soccorso in the exclusive Politeama Genovese theater. Later on, in July, they performed at the Porto Antico Progfest alongside with Jus Primae Noctis and Il Balletto di Bronzo.

On October 30, 2022 the band plays in Holland in the prestigious prog venue t-Blok. In September of the same year a new album was released: Il Domenicano Bianco for Nadir Music. This record release is presented during the 2 Days Prog + 1 of Revislate (Veruno) in a festival which sees among the headliners bands such as: ORK, Pain of Salvation, Big Big Train, Pure Reason Revolution, Unitopia and Ozric Tentacles.
